5 More Takeaways Of Porcelain Veneers

You don’t have to get veneers on all your teeth.

There is a misconception that if you get porcelain veneers you have to commit to all of your teeth, but this simply is not the case. For example, if you have a gap you want to fill your front two teeth with, this is the perfect option. Or, if you chipped a tooth and it’s a bit discolored, a veneer can improve the appearance of this tooth.

We like to explain veneers as a piece to the puzzle — perhaps you have an already beautiful smile but there is a tooth or teeth that need a little extra attention, veneers can do this! Tooth-by-tooth, or your entire mouth.

Getting the right color of veneers requires detail!

People want a sparkling white smile, but for most, that’s not reality. We all can get very close, but with age comes natural discoloration. So, if you’re planning on getting a couple or just one veneer, the dentist will have to match the color as close as possible. After all, you don’t want your veneer appearing fake, you want it to blend with all of your natural teeth.

And this is where Dr. Martin J. Schwartz comes in! He is the best at details and getting veneer colors just right!

You’ll get temporary veneers.

Before the veneers are placed, your dentist will take a mold of your teeth and begin crafting your new smile! But before everything is set in place, they’ll apply the temporaries so you can get an idea of what they’ll look like. Keep in mind they won’t be the exact ones, but they’re more or less a blueprint.

From here you can discuss with your dentist what you love about them and what needs to be improved.

There are two types of veneers.

When it comes to veneers you have a choice of partial veneers that only cover a portion of your tooth or full veneers that do cover your entire tooth. In most cases, both the partial and full veneer can be placed right over your natural, healthy tooth, while in some cases roughly .5mm will need to be shaved from your tooth for the perfect fit.

Veneers don’t last forever.

As durable and hardy as veneers are, they won’t last forever. Veneers have a shelf life of about 15-20 years before they need to be replaced. So, the better you take care of them the better the longevity you’ll get out of them!
