Headaches & Jaw Pain
Do you experience morning headaches, ear aches, migraines, a stiff jaw and neck, or sensitive teeth? Affecting over 44 million Americans, bruxism is the destructive habit of grinding and clenching teeth. Typically occurring while asleep at night, people are often unaware that they are grinding their teeth.
Symptoms of Bruxism
Bruxism occurs in adults and children alike. In adults, teeth grinding can be triggered by anxiety, stress, fatigue, malocclusion of teeth, or there may be no clear cause. If left untreated, bruxism can lead to severe teeth attrition and cracked teeth. Common symptoms of bruxism are:
- Migraines and tension headaches – especially around the temples
- ear aches
- stiff jaw and neck
- clicking, popping or locking jaw joints (TMJ)
- soreness or pain when biting or closing the mouth
- worn, ground down or chipped teeth
- teeth sensitivity
Over the years, Dr. Schwartz has helped many of his patients overcome the symptoms and pain associated with grinding and clenching. The relief from daily headaches and neck muscle stiffness has brought a significant improvement in the quality of life for several of our satisfied patients.

Treatment of Symptoms
The FDA approved NTI-tss device provides an effective non-drug, non-surgical method of preventing headaches, jaw pain and sensitive teeth. By reducing the intensity of grinding and clenching, we can effectively minimize the source of pain – in many cases, in just a few days.
In one office visit we can create a custom-made NTI-tss device – a tiny, clear-plastic device that fits over your two front teeth. You only wear the NTI-tss device while you sleep at night, making clenching virtually impossible by preventing the back teeth from contacting each other.
Click here for a short video explaining how NTI-tss can help relieve migraines and headaches associated with teeth grinding and clenching.
In some cases, a full nightguard is needed when an NTI-tss device does not suffice. Dr. Schwartz can prepare customized nightguards to cover the entire biting surface of all the teeth.
Discuss your symptoms with us to determine if an NTI-tss or nightguard is a good treatment option for you.
